Functions of a needle valve

Needle valves play an important role in regulating the amount of a Functions of a needle valve

substance released by flow, pressure and direction. Needle valves also have the ability to shut off the flow entirely. Needle valves resemble globe valves in function and design except the needle valve has a point rather than a disc at the end of the valve stem.

Like other valves, needle valves play the pivotal role of controlling and regulating the amount of product released by flow, along with the direction and pressure of the product. Unlike many other valves, needle valves come with the built in ability to shut off product flow entirely. When it comes to design, needle valves resemble ball valves a lot with the exception of a piercing point rather than a disc at the end of the system.

The functions of needle valves

Needle valves are especially designed to control the flow of liquid or gas products so that flow can be regulated. It can be increased, decreased or completely shut off. When it comes to throttle control, needle valves are highly preferred compared to ball valves due to the smaller seating surface. In addition to this, needle valves also provide ample protection for fragile gauges that might be prone to damage when high amounts of pressurized substances are released.

The needle valve threads

There are four main categories of threads in needle valves-coarse, fine, wetted and non-wetted. As the name implicates fine threads are thin in appearance and are spaced quite closely together for improved control.

A coarse thread is much thicker and spaced apart to offer max flow and shut off with not much precision. Wetted stem threads are exposed to the product passing through the system while non-wetted threads stay dry and are not exposed to any system.

The seals

The three types of seals used in needle valve system range from metal, metal to plastic and metal to metal. Plastic to metal creates a larger seal area that is perfect for regulation of gas flow. On the other hand, metal to metal seals are used to regulate liquid flow pressure.

These are some of the types and functions of needle valves that make them so useful. If you are looking for needle valve suppliers or manufacturers, we advise you to get in touch today and learn more about how we can meet your needs.
